Squeee!

The past few weeks, I have been hearing what sounds like baby birds near our front door. I haven’t been able to figure out where exactly the sounds were coming from, because it sounds as if the baby birds are inside the eaves of our porch’s roof. A few days ago, I was standing outside the door and listening to them and all of a sudden a chickadee flew off of the top of the porch posts! That really scared me, but then I knew where to look!

I’m too short to see the top of the porch post, so I couldn’t really see if there was a nest up there or not. I also didn’t know how big the nest would be, so I wasn’t that curious about the fact I couldn’t see it.

Anyway, I was just sitting at our kitchen table in the bay window and realized that I could hear the baby birds chirping. Reed helped me get the step ladder out on the porch, and we found out that the porch posts are actually hollow–or at least the tops of them are! I ran upstairs to get a mirror, but was too dark to see down to the nest.

It’s a pretty good place to put a nest, I guess, because it has a roof over it. I hope that they grow big and strong!

If you want to see chickadees in their nests, this is a blog I read that has a camera in a nestbox. (Ok, it’s supposed to be about bluebirds, but the chickadees took over!)

Where am I?

What is this place? It looks SO familiar, and someone has written all about my life? What could it be? A … blog? Oh, wait, it’s all coming back to me.

Sorry that I have been gone so long. Mostly, I blame work, but we had an unexpected trip back to Georgia last weekend to be with my family and attend my aunt’s funeral. During the week, I am usually exhausted in the evenings and on the weekends I have to run errands. It all leaves very little time for adventuring or writing up a blog entry.

I hope all of you are doing well out there. It is a beautiful Saturday here in Raleigh. I have already been to the farmer’s market this morning, where I found local asparagus, and strawberries, and peas. I don’t really like peas, but I like the idea of shelling them. Maybe I will like them more when I have made them myself. We shall see!

If any one drops by, please leave me a comment! No, I don’t care that I am begging for comments. I have no shame! Haha. Now, I’m out the door to work on updating my summer work wardrobe, since I can’t wear ratty jeans and free tshirts with my stinky Chacos to work anymore. Woe is me! Ha!
